Add a simple footer

Last Updated: Dec 28, 2016 05:08PM EST

Looking to access your theme's code or language options with Shopify's new theme editor layout?

In your Shopify admin click on Online store > Themes
Next to the theme that you want to edit click on the Menu button which is a small square with 3 blue dots
This will open a submenu of options which includes: Edit HTMl / CSS and Edit Language

The Testament theme does not have a footer... This is intentional.

We have worked with numerous websites for customers who see traffic in the hundreds of thousands per day.
Links within a footer see less than 1% click through even though they contain sometimes vital information.

We get requests to add one but the process is very simple to show a few links powered by the Footer linklist in the Navigation section of your admin.

The following code is a guide to adding a simple list and is based on the assumption that no code changes have been made to your theme.liquid file.

1. In the Shopify admin click on themes > template editor > layouts > theme.liquid
2. Scroll down to lines: 361 - 367... You will see this:

  <div id="footer-wrapper">
    <div id="footer" class="row">
      <div class="credit desktop-12">
        <p>Copyright &copy; {{ 'now' | date: "%Y" }} {{ shop.name }} • All Rights Reserved</p>

Replace that with this:

  <div id="footer-wrapper">
    <div id="footer" class="row">
      <ul class="desktop-12">
        {% for link in linklists.footer.links %}
        <li>{{ link.title | link_to: link.url }}</li>
        {% endfor %}
      <div class="clear"></div>
      <div class="credit desktop-12">
        <p>Copyright &copy; {{ 'now' | date: "%Y" }} {{ shop.name }} • All Rights Reserved</p>

Click Save when done.

3. Click on the Assets folder and open: stylesheet.css.liquid
Scroll all the way to the bottom and add this:

#footer ul {
    list-style: none;
  border-top: 1px solid {{ settings.dotted_color }};
  padding-top: 20px;
#footer ul li {
    display: inline-block;
    margin: 0 10px;

Click save when done.
